You send pages and a brief. You receive an editorial letter: an analysis of what is working, what is not, and what might be done about it, with examples from your own text.

It is a reading and a set of opinions. It is not a rewrite, a proofread, a guarantee of publication, or a promise that an agent will say yes. Nobody can sell you that, and anyone who says otherwise should be treated with suspicion.

The analysis is produced by an AI tool (Anthropic's Claude, working from instructions I wrote out of craft books), and every letter is read and edited by me before it reaches you. This is stated on the front page as well, because you should not have to reach the terms to find it out.

Send work you have the right to send. Do not send anyone else's manuscript, and do not send material that is unlawful.

The letter is written for you. Share it with whoever you like, but do not resell it or present it as your own editorial service.

The service is in an open test phase, and during it every read is free: a chapter, several chapters, or a whole manuscript, however many times you send them. There is no card to enter and nothing is charged, then or afterwards, for anything sent during the test.

When the test phase ends, a read has a flat price by scope: one price for a chapter or a few chapters, another for a whole manuscript, and half the book price for a fresh read of a manuscript that has changed. The exact figures are on the pricing page, and nothing is ever charged without you seeing the amount in the checkout first.

If a letter is not delivered, you are refunded in full. If it is delivered and you consider it worthless, tell me why and I will refund you. I would rather return the money than have someone feel they were sold something empty, and the note about why is worth more to me than the payment.

A few days, usually. It is a person reading and editing what the tool produced, so it is not instant and it is not perfectly predictable. If something is going to take much longer than expected, you get told.

Close your account whenever you like. I can decline or end service for anyone sending unlawful material or attempting to abuse the service, and any unused payment is returned.

The service is provided as it is. Editorial judgement is judgement, not fact, and reasonable readers disagree; a letter can be wrong about your book, which is exactly why every finding is written so you can argue with it.

My liability is limited to what you paid. That is a real limit and I would rather write it in plain words than bury it in capitals.

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. If we disagree, write to editor@karlove.com and I would rather sort it out there first. I mean that literally: it is a one-person operation, so the email reaches the person who can fix it.
